Best of Double Cluepon Day: The Tinderbox Grows
7 September 2007Closing out this week is a post from 2003. I often write about Selphie. Raising her has been probably one of the greatest privileges in life I have ever been afforded. I certainly cannot imagine life without her.
Selphie has always had an edge, but back in 2003, she was an angry child. Angry at some of the problems she perceived regarding her mother. And while I have always been very up front with her, she had issues with finding a good outlet for her anger. She was at that awkward age when she was just starting to get into her own, and she lacked alot of the articulation she has these days:
Selphie wants to use me, to attack her mother. I sense this very very strongly. And, from a 10 year old, well, that’s the way they work sometimes. She is hurting, her mother never calls her, her mother never makes any attempt to contact or visit her. And, Selphie, really starting to break out into individualism, wants to lash out, and make her mother hurt just as much as she does.
As time went on, of course she changed, and her skill at making her feelings and thoughts known got alot better. She keeps her mother at arms length these days, and indeed has come into her own as a thoughtful, but strong and independent young woman.
