Who to choose.
13 October 2007I have officially given up on the two party system.
For awhile there, it seemed as though the Democrats had regained a spine, and were going to start undoing the damage of the previous years when they got their congressional majority.
But, then…the smell of a sellout began to waft through the air. Nancy Pelosi stated that impeachment (despite many feeling it should be considered) was “off the table”. To date, Pelosi has pretty much rubber stamped her way through as speaker.
People are beginning to talk about Clinton and Obama. And for awhile, Obama had me fooled. I had felt the waves of a serious Obamism coming on. However, Obama and Clinton are just more of the same. And, now it has come to light that the reason Rahm Emanuel may have been so successful in the last midterm, is because by and large he, along with the DCCC sold the people who believed in them right the hell out.
If you are wondering why the dems aren’t enforcing the will of the majority, it’s because Emanuel basically put back burner conservatives to run under the Democratic label. These “Blue Dog” democrats are basically right wingers in democrat clothing. Right down to good old Tammy Duckworth.
The fact that Obama went along with this, says alot to me. He had me fooled for a long time on his stance. He fooled me into believing he was a Thinking Man’s Candidate. And, he fooled me into thinking he stood for principles, because he was someone who kept an eye on everything that goes on around him. But, in the end, he took Marching Orders from Emanuel, marching orders that put, in some cases, Fundementalist Christians into congress under the democratic banner. And while the lapel pin debate was good PR, I see it now for what it is: good PR.
As for Hillary, she has none of the style, grace, or charisma of her husband. She’s nothing more than an over-hyped backbencher. While I would be thrilled at the prospect of any minority president, be it black or female…I wont vote for someone because they are black, or female. Hillary is more of the same.
Obama is more of the same. Eloquence with words means nothing without action. Let me tell you about another man who was eloquent. He went on to be known as The Great Orator.
That’s not to say Obama or Clinton are soul sapping right wing nutjobs. But they are not what they claim to be. But Obama is rapidly showing me he is not what he says he is, and Clinton has basically been rubber stamping with one hand, and waving with the other.
As for Rahm Emanuel, everyone ooh’d and ahh’d over him after the last mid-term. Everyone talked about what a grand general he was, how amazing he was with strategy. There is nothing strategic about putting a lipstick on a pig and blindfolding the public. In the end, we kissed the pig, sight unseen. He sold the country out for nothing more than the appearance of a Democratic Majority. That’s why Congress is so fractured.
My dad taught me that what you do not always see, is just as, if not sometimes more important as what you do. While Obama seems to be a favorite among many, he also shows signs of “table talking” ala Pelosi.
So, what to do? The Democratic plate is festooned with rotting meat. The Republicans? Please don’t make me laugh. Ron Paul? Again, I say hah.
What needs to happen, is we need a viable third party. Made up of Democrats who are truly tired of the game. I do not see a mass defection big enough to effectively de-populate and remove power from the DNC. I do not see Pelosi, Clinton or Obama working to safeguard our rights as Americans. Sure, Iraq is an issue. But so are my liberties. If any of the candidates want to do something, why aren’t they taking care of my rights, as a citizen? Why are they allowing the machine of government to continue the erosion of my rights? Why are they passing bills that rubberstamp government eavesdropping? And why is the Democratic Party endorsing and supporting candidates that do nothing to undo the damage? People who , by and large are affiliated with and support dangerous people with dangerous agenda’s…not to mention the status quo.
Obama, Clinton, all of them are more of the same. None of them have stood up for what’s right. They instead move into the generalities, trying to be everything to just enough people to get them into office. Well, I and probably a fair number of others are tired of that. Obama is not the answer, nor is Clinton. The DCCC, and the DNC sold us out in the last election, and we have seen the results of that.
They won’t fool me again. Who will I vote for? I do not know yet. I might possibly write in “Dave Barry”. At least he will be entertaining.
