Fun with laser printers.

It’s amazing what you can do when you’re bored and you have access to perl hackers. =)

I found the following little script over at kovaya.com. By itself, it’s pretty good. It’s a beautiful thing to hack the display on a laser printer. After all, what is LCD for?

But, it was lacking something. It was lacking automation! So, I approached my pal Chris62vw in #modus (on Freenode) about adding some functionality. Specifically: I wanted the script to draw a random phrase from a text file. About 45 seconds later, he had it done. I now have it crontab’d on one of my servers. It changes the display every so often automagically. So, in the spirit of sharing the fruits, you can download it here. Be sure to read the readme. It’s a perl script, if you dont know what perl is, or how to run it…then its not for you.

Enjoy!
