Eyeballing Bigotry.
31 October 2007So, I took my brother to get his contacts at the Wal-mart vision center. He had to have an eye exam, and I needed some stuff for my own pair of glasses anyhow. It went fairly okay. However, I was witness to some of the most unprofessional staff I have probably ever seen.
Of course, what should one expect at Wal-Mart? Answer: not much. From letting the phone ring on and on without answering it, to showing extreme bigotry in a job that puts you in direct contact with the public. I saw it all. But, wait…I am getting ahead of myself.
My brother really wanted to go back to contact lenses. He has used them before, however at one point he had to stop using them. So, he fills out the paperwork, and goes through the exam process. The Doctor saw him, and figured out his scrip.
He comes out, tells me the skinny on it all. And then, one of the clerks, whom we will assume will win the starring role in “Creature from the black lagoon in the trailer park” sits him down to figure out the total, and give him his first two boxes of contacts. And she asks him about why he had to originally stop wearing the contacts.
So, he relates the story. And it goes something like this. My brother is a cook at a restaurant. Now, just about anyone can get along with my brother. He is not a raging asshole. He does not go looking for trouble. And while he certainly has his moments, like all people do, he’s generally a nice guy. One day, he was de-greasing the walls with the other cook on duty, The other cook on duty happened to be Hispanic. He was an older guy, and a temperamental asshole. And, whilst debating one issue or another over the job at hand, managed to spray some really harsh de-greasing solution into his left eye, which melted a part of his contact to the surface of the eye. Whether it was on purpose or not is a subject for debate, but the upshot was, he couldn’t wear contacts for awhile, while his eye healed up.
Now, to be honest, the situation at hand is this: another human being assaulted my brother with de-greaser. But, here comes this glorified register jockey, this fat, nasty woman who says: “Was he illegal? I’ll bet he was an illegal”.
At that point, I perked up: “It does not matter if he was or not, anyone with an ill disposition could have done the same thing”. Now, most people with social skills, and a sense of when they may have crossed a line, would have shut up at that point. But, not this bitch and a half. She responds: “Of course it matters, I’ll bet he was”…Of course…illegal aliens are the only source of crime and bad acts in the country. Silly me…what was I thinking?
Anyone who knows me, knows the one thing I am intolerant of, is…surprise…intolerance. I have little patience for it. Seraph knows this. Selphie knows this. Rival definitely knows it. He must have sensed I was about to go off on this silly twat because he stopped me from completely going off on her.
At the end of the day, it’s pretty clear all of the immigration dust that’s been kicked up has been working. The majority of people in this country, who get their news and their opinions from major media have bought the lies. Hook, line and sinker. While ignorance is not a crime in my book, willful stupidity is. This woman was working in a job (badly, I might add..as she had to have the basics of filling out orders in the computer explained to her about 3 times in a row before she barely started to grasp it) that has direct contact with the public, and here she is…spreading the hate, spreading her brand of bigotry.
I suppose that’s one reason she’s riding a stool in front of a terminal at a Wal-mart. I know I could never hire someone like that. Or keep them on staff. I suppose Wal-Mart or Burger King is about the only place for such people. Although, one wonders if maybe she should be moved to tagging stock in the back of the store. So she can share her narrow minded views and ideas with corrugated cardboard boxes, instead of the people who will most certainly find her to be the repugnant creature she is. At least in the stock room, she will be out of sight, and her opinions won’t reflect on the staff around her to the public.
Wal-Mart is a shitty company, to be sure. However, she fails as a company representative. And her grossly ignorant comments made her fellow employees look like shit, because they tolerate her existence in their department.
